The Karate Kid legacy series is at its best when it balances nostalgia and action-packed sequences. Cobra Kai Season 6, Episode 9 does exactly that with Terry Silver’s (Thomas Ian Griffith)shocking return as the final team matches begin in the Sekai Taikai. Just when Miyagi-Do was already off their game because of Tory Nichols (Peyton List) joining Cobra Kai, Silver coming back will only make things worse.
But there might be hope for them yet when Miguel Diaz (Xolo Maridueña), Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka), and Kenny Payne (Dallas Dupree Young) arrive to help. Can Miyagi-Do put their differences aside and finally work together to make it to the end of the Sekai Taikai? Or will Silver’s manipulation tactics get the better of them? Terry Silver Reveals His Revenge Plan in ‘Cobra Kai’ Season 6, Episode 9
The episode begins three months earlier in Bangkok, Thailand with a broken-down Silver meeting his lawyer in a fighting ring. The lawyer was able to get the charges against Silver dropped, but Silver is more focused on the fight going on, which features Iron Dragons’ Sensei Wolf (Lewis Tan). Silver plans to cover Wolf’s debts as long as he embarrasses Cobra Kai and Miyagi-Do in the Sekai Taikai.
Cut to the end of Cobra Kai Season 6, Episode 8, Silver reveals that the long-haired man who kidnapped Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) is Dennis De Guzman (William Christopher Ford), one of the thugs who bothered him in The Karate Kid Part III. Before John Kreese (Martin Kove), Chozen (Yuji Okumoto), and Daniel try to fight Silver, he’s called in for his massage. The next day, Johnny, Miguel, and Kenny arrive and are filled in, along with the rest of Miyagi-Do, about Silver’s return.
The Sekai Taikai officials can’t do anything about Silver since he’s operating under a different dojo, but Johnny is confident they’ll be able to take down Silver again. Daniel and Johnny clear the air and are back to operating on the same page. Kenny also forgives Devon (Oona O’Brien) for taking his spot on the team, but Demetri (Gianni Decenzo) tells Eli “Hawk” Moskowitz (Jacob Bertrand) and Sam LaRusso (Mary Mouser) that he suspects Kenny is secretly working for Silver.
The Final Sekai Taikai Group Match Begins in “Blood In Blood Out”
The last Sekai Taikai group event is an all-dojo tag team competition where two fighters battle in the ring. The dojo’s other fighters will be outside the ring waiting to be tagged in. The battle is continuous until a dojo lands three hits on their opponent. During Miyagi-Do’s match against Furia de Pantera, Hawk deliberately ignores Kenny’s help and tags in Robby Keene (Tanner Buchanan) instead. Caught off-guard, Robby loses the match after getting hit twice. Demetri and Hawk justify their reasons for not tagging in Kenny because he might be a mole for Silver.
Seeing the team on edge after Silver’s return, Johnny suggests they mess with Silver to get back at him. But after seeing Kreese try to threaten Silver, Chozen suggests they let Cobra Kai deal with him. Miguel checks on Robby after losing the match. Robby fills him in on what he missed and suggests Miguel should be captain. But after his heart-to-heart talk with Johnny last episode, Miguel apologizes to Robby and knows that he’ll lead them to victory.
Meanwhile, while Zara Malik (Rayna Vallandingham) is livestreaming and taunting Tory, she steals the phone and exposes Zara for sleeping with people’s boyfriends. When Kreese goes to his locker, he finds his knife from Cobra Kai Season 6, Episode 2 missing and assumes Silver stole it. When Kreese confronts Silver, he doesn’t seem to know anything about it. Gunther Braun (Carsten Norgaard) threatens to disqualify them both if a fight breaks out. Watching from above, it’s revealed Johnny, Daniel, and Chozen were the ones who stole it so Kreese could go after Silver.
Cobra Kai Fight Miyagi-Do One Last Time in ‘Cobra Kai’ Season 6, Episode 9
In Cobra Kai’s match against Tiger Strike, Tory is too distracted thinking about Robby and loses the match. Silver sees Kenny training alone and offers him a spot on the Iron Dragons. Hawk sees them talking and assumes Demetri was right. Miyagi-Do’s next match is with Redentores. Although Robby’s doing well, he tags Kenny to set a good example as a leader. Kenny contemplates what Silver told him, but he stays loyal to Miyagi-Do and wins the round for them.
After the match, Kim Da-Eun (Alicia Hannah-Kim) accuses Chozen of stealing Kreese’s knife. She warns him that Kreese’s anger towards Silver could easily be directed towards Miyagi-Do. She notes that Chozen wouldn’t want to make another “mistake” since that’s what he called their night together. In the locker room before their match with Cobra Kai, the Miyagi-Do students get emotional since this will be their last match together at the Sekai Taikai as a team.
Robby volunteers to fight first, and Tory takes over from Kwon Jae-Sung (Brandon H. Lee). She tells Robby she knows about him and Zara, which throws him off. They’re evenly matched so Sam and Kwon get tagged in. Tory explains to Robby that Kwon tricked him into thinking they slept together. Back in the fight, Miyagi-Do is operating much better as a team as they tire out Cobra Kai. With the match point on the line, Miguel tags Robby in, and he’s ready to exact revenge on Kwon. Robby takes his time messing with Kwon before delivering a final kick that secures Miyagi-Do the victory.
Mr. Miyagi’s Dark Secret Is Revealed in ‘Cobra Kai’ Season 6, Episode 9
With Cobra Kai finally eliminated, Miyagi-Do celebrate their win. Silver offers Daniel the results from Mr. Miyagi’s (Pat Morita) time in the Sekai Taikai. Daniel is distraught to see that his former sensei killed his opponent during one of the matches. The final moment of Cobra Kai Season 6, Episode 9 shows Kreese finding his knife returned to him, saying “This isn’t over until I say it’s over.”
The penultimate episode of Cobra Kai Season 6, Part 2 is a reminder of how far this series has come before it closes the book when Part 3 is released in 2025. After seeing Miyagi-Do struggle time after time at the Sekai Taikai, they’re finally operating as a cohesive unit. With Cobra Kai seemingly out of the fight, Sam and Robby will have to step up their game as they face the Iron Dragons, the reigning Sekai Taikai champions.

- Terry Silver's presence alone is enough to shake up Cobra Kai and Miyagi-Do.
- Miyagi-Do working out their differences is heartwarming to see as the series is closing in on the end.
- The episode features the best fight choreography of the Sekai Taikai matches so far.

- Mr. Miyagi's secret is surprising, but it doesn't live up to how long they kept dangling the carrot for audiences.
- The Iron Dragons get less screen time, especially for fights, with Terry Silver around.
